Our Projects
Welcome to ARHistory's showcase of augmented reality projects that bring history and culture to life like never before. Through innovative technology and a deep appreciation for heritage, we have crafted immersive experiences that bridge the gap between the past and present. Dive into our collection of projects, each designed to engage, educate, and inspire. From interactive tours of historic sites to virtual exhibitions in museums, our AR creations offer a new dimension of exploration. Join us on a journey through time and discover the stories that define our cultural legacy.
National Museums Liverpool
Our first project with National Museums Liverpool. Produced as
a technology demonstration, we showcased how works from their
restoration department could be displayed to the public.
We created a web based AR experience to overlay and display
information about two of their paintings, showing visitors the
original sketch and an x-ray scan of the painting which their
restoration team had produced.
Postbox Demonstration
A technology demonstration piece to test how an object in the real world can be tracked and content overlaid to give more information. This small project serves as an example of where the development of augmented reality technology has reached the ability to recognise real world objects and superimpose digital content to them.
This was a particular challenge given the object is cylindrical and does not have a large amount of features for the software to recognise but it tracks surprisingly smoothly using the iPhones internal motion sensors to enhance stability.
Chester Cathedral - Guided Tour
This project was achieved using a 2D image target to overlay a video giving the impression that one of the mosaic characters has come to life to tell the visitors about an area of the cathedral.
It blends particularly well with the background giving a seamless experience and showcasing how augmented reality can be used to provide a digital tour guide experience where the people within the artwork are the guides.
St. Luke's Bombed-out Church
St. Luke's, once a church ruined in WWII, is now a cultural icon in Liverpool. It was scanned using a laser measurement system, and a highly detailed model of its original appearance was produced. This model was then overlaid onto the scanned version to accurately depict how the building looked before its destruction.
This project featured on BBC news as well as local news
outlets and radio.
